On this day in history:
1918: Fighting in World War One ceases with the signing of an armistice between Germany and the Allies at 11 am.

The horrific experiences of the men who fought in the trenches is not forgotten.
With help from the BBC Radio archive, and sobering images from WWI – listen to the personal testimonies of a handful of the thousands of British Tommies who marched to the Western Front: LINK
Lest we forget. RIP.

Thank you, Jan.
I’m pleased to see that another person picked up on the significance of today. I am relieved to report that the two minutes’ silence was observed today at college- I feel odd if I don’t participate, so that was a blessing.

With images and stories like that, you would think we would learn. War is horrible. I posted the link to facebook.

We didn’t have our two minutes of silence at work yesterday, unfortunately we are busy fighting bushfires. I had my two minutes in my head.

Date significance in my personal realm: when I was growing up there was more of an acknowledgment of what we in the U.S. now call Veteran’s Day, and I was taught in childhood to honor fallen warriors; my dad’s plane crashed on this day in 1965; I spent today in a 7-hour meeting that could change the way I do my work, possibly end it; Owen had a fascination with numbers, 11/11 among them. Are we all fallen warriors? Most definitely, especially if “fallen” is a metaphor for transformed.
I wrote a poem years ago, titled: 11th Floor. It is particularly significant today.
Thank you for your post, Jan…and for the beautiful photo of your tuxedo kitty.
