One of the things I love about reading other people’s blogs is that they enable you to peep into lives that are often very different from your own ~ thus you gain an insight into how other people you would probably never meet in your ordinary life, live. In a way it’s like being able to read someone else’s diary, or a social history book written as events actually unfold. It is often enlightening, fascinating and awe inspiring ~ and of course sometimes sad too.
Anyway, this week I happened upon a blog written by a nun. It seems technology is changing the habits of nuns (excuse the pun!) since they are now just as likely to spend their time blogging, as they are in prayer. Julie Vieira, 37, is just one of many nuns who writes a daily blog ~ visit her here.
Apparently, a growing number of young women are turning their backs on the materialistic rat race we live in, and finding solace by joining a convent. The Catholic church has even backed a new “match-making” website to help people find the best nunnery to meet their needs.

On a lighter and slightly irreverent note ~ you might like to find out what your “Nun’s name” would be if you took the plunge! [ Nun Name ] ~ mine was: SISTER AUGUSTA SPITWORT. It’s NOT a very heavenly name is it?
If on the other hand your shallow and you like reading “Hello” magazine (even if it’s only when you are at the hair dressers or in the Dentist’s waiting room) and you’re sold on celebrity and would like to know what famous person you most resemble, try: [ Celebrity Face Match ] . You just upload a photo of yourself and they give you 10 matches ~ there is a flaw in the programme though because I got several matches that were the same!
This is the pic I uploaded:
These were my matches:
- Demmi Moore (4 matches)
- Samantha Mathis (2 matches)
- Eva Mendez (1 match)
- Bail Ling (1 match)
- Rose McGowan (1 match)
- Elise Neal (1 match)

It’s funny, I never considered that a nun would blog, even though I know a priest who blogs. Weird.
You could do worse than be compared to any of those ladies
