OK, I’m showing photos of stained glass church windows again – but this time with a difference! They’re sans building and for sale. I discovered the room below tucked at the back of an antique shop near where I live. The door was slightly ajar, so I peeped in and this is what I saw:

They were very moderately priced considering the equisite workmanship.

Naturally, I felt an inclination to purchase one. We live in a Grade II listed house .
(Grade II are particularly important buildings of more than special interest in England, UK (Listing is not meant to fossilise a building. Its long-term interests are often best served by putting it to good use. If this cannot be the one it was designed for, a new use may have to be found. Listing ensures that the architectural and historic interest of the building is carefully considered before any alterations, either outside or inside, are agreed)
This means we can’t change the external windows on our own home (although we can put in internal glass panels).

So, I purchased this one – shown here being explored by my gorgous cat Milo, when I brought it home for restoration!

I picked a ship because we have sea views from our house and the beach is just 4 minutes walk away!
The window above is beautiful after restoration – you have no idea how filthy it was in the photo above. With light behind it, it is stunning. I’m going to have the glass panel inserted into one of the bathroom doors.

How unusual and interesting. I don’t think I have ever seen windows for sale.

Love the photo of your cat with the ship. So nice that you were able to purchase and use one. It looks like quite a variety available.

You did a beautiful purchase ! It’s really lovely and expecially for a bathroom ! What a nice shop. I like stained windows very much ! In Belgium there are quite some houses with stained windows, my best friend has them in her living room. Her house is quite old too from 1930 !

Hi Gattina,
1930 sounds fairly modern to me (although a lovely period) since our house was built in 1830. Previously we lived in a Queen Anne house built in 1710 – that was very special indeed.
It’s great to have stained glass windows though – we can’t change the windows in our house as it is listed.

Outstanding post, the ship is beautiful and an excellent choice. I remember the St Andrew’s Church stained glass post was great too.
Your house with sea views sound so wonderful and your boys are very cute. I have a boy and girl of my own, ones orange and white the other is dark tabby/tortiseshell.
Thanks for the barber pole explanation and comments. Have a great day!

Thanks James. Do your cats have a blog too? I’d love to see a pic of them!

They don’t have a blog but here are a couple of posts that feature them. Also if you look at the top right corner of my Something Sighted blog you will see Simba in his box.

What a wonderful collection of windows for sale!! you made a lovely choice, it will look wonderful inserted into a door. Love the nautical touch!!
I am very pleased to hear you liked my pictures. That’s a beautiful part of Germany and also well-known for its marzipan

And strangely, my husband adores Marzipan. Maybe he first tasted it in Luebeck.

When I saw the first picture, at the antique shop, I went “wow” but when you said you’d actually bought one I went “holy cow!”
That picture of Milo with the art glass is great! Hope you show us a ‘finished’ version of the door once it’s inserted. I think that is SO cool.
Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blogs this week!
Cheers!

You have hit the motherlode of window shops and recycling. What a gorgeous place. Your choice to purchase gets approval all around including from kitty.
Annie
p.s. Thanks for the reminder that I need to get over to the stained glass shop here in town and pick up my recently reframed old stained glass windows.

I adore stained glass and would LOVE to have a piece like that in my home – what a treasure. I’m fascinated by truly old homes, I’d love to see more of yours.

Hi Robin,
I am working on a “Window Views” post of various windows in my own home (since some of them are stunning) – it won’t be next week – but perhaps the week after. So you may enjoy seeing it.
