Winter has a beauty of it’s own and I always think it is a wonderful time to be taking photos. I love to walk out early in the morning after a snowfall – and be the first to leave footprints in the crisp snow. I love the clean white blanket of snow that covers everything …  and is such an equaliser, making even the less than attractive places look magical. I marvel at the hoare frost that makes the landscape look like a picture post card. Winter is beautiful. Sadly, here in the South West of England in the shelter of Lyme Bay where I live, we rarely get snow. But we do get snow on Dartmoor and the commons … and in other less sheltered towns and villages around.

First of all my adored grandson (taken in 2007) … he was the architect of this amazing snow-man (with a bit of spade work fom his Dad):

Below: My beloved cat Henry (1985 – 2004) … he hated his paws to get cold but insisted on going out in the snow! Oh how I miss my blue eyed boy. RIP Henry … we will never forget you.

    1. I love this photo Friday that you all do, I swear, I have to get my act together and join in the fun. The snowman that your grandson made with help from his daddy- LOL- cute! I still LOVE making a snowman. The swimming in Sidmouth, yeah, I think I’d take a pass. I cannot imagine what that would feel like to be in freezing water- I’ll bet it feels painful? Yuk. I love the pic of you and your grandbabies…. Jan, you are so beautiful! And, you cat, he lived to be 19 years old? Oh, I am sure you miss him….. he’s cute and 19 years is a long time for a cat, no? The rest of the pics are of gorgeous scenery. The one of “Snow in Devon”- did you take that from your car? Out the front window? I just wondered because it’s so clear!!! Great job girl!

    2. omg, that was “20 questions” for you. LOL! Next time, I’ll just call ya *wink*

    3. And who said Winter can’t be a lovely time of year. These photos are fab Jan :-)

    4. JQ,

Snow in Devon was taken standing in the middle of the road!

The swimmers – I would NEVER swim in the icy sea – they’re completely mad. They do it EVERY year – and some of them are quite elderly!
My grandkids – they are gorgeous – I am SO lucky.

And thank you for the compliment. :-)

      Mark,

Thanks! I’ll be popping over to yours later.

    5. I love all the pictures, especially the one with your grandson and the snowman. It rarely snows here, so I put up pictures of bare trees. I have some snow pictures but I’ve posted them before and wanted to put something different up. It still looks like fall here.

    6. I love all photo. I especially love the 7th one it is just pretty. your grandson with the snowman.

      great work this week

    7. Wow, what beautiful winter pics! I see it gets pretty cold in your neck of the world. I would not have imagined such from the beautiful water pics I’m used to seeing. Those grandchildren are absolutely adorable! The horses look like the Clidesdale (sp?) variety Woah, it looks like it gets cold in Sidmouth! I can feel the chill bumps coming!

Thanks for sharing luv. . .
