Good news for Photo Fridayers!
You know how boring it is having to add everyone’s link to their Photo Friday entry, to your own post? Well those days are over; now you can use Mr Linky if you wish! You will need to register but the basic service I’m using is FREE. Each entrant can add their own link to their own post on your blog (If you don’t use Mister Linkie you will need to continue to post their links as you usually do). And when we visit each other’s entries to check out the stunning photos we can each add the link to our own entry (if they are using Mr Linkie). I’ve put a copy below for you to try out.
The best way to add a link is to add one for the specific post that you’re linking to, otherwise if someone visits after you’ve posted another post, they won’t go to the specific Photo Friday post via Mr Linky – they’ll just go to your latest post. You can copy the link by either going into the comments section of the specific post and then copying the link from the top of the blog, e.g. http:// etc. OR you can click on the specific post on the sidebar, which will take you into the specific entry and then you can copy the same link. OK?
Click below to try it out (link to any post of your own to try it out).
When you visit someone else’s site if you press Mr Linky you will get a list of everyone’s links (providing they’ve filled them in!) On the one above I put in a link to Milo’s blog – test it out. It’s easy. The link opens in a new window – so you can return to the original post with ease.
PS: I thought that if we used Mr Linky, it would save having to use the Photo Friday / Gold Award page. That could be reserved for information about Photo Friday rather than for links. What do you think?

So each participant add’s their own link to that code?
If people want to visit other’s how do they see them?

Hi Tina,
Yes, the idea is that each person with a Photo Friday entry copies the link to their own post (via Mr Linkie) on everyone’s blog.
The best thing is to copy the link to your own post before you visit the other sites – then you can paste it into Mr Linkie while you’re there.
I suggest anyone using Mr Linkie points people in the direction of pressing Mr Linkie in order to see the other entrants. (e.g. TO SEE OTHER ENTRANTS PRESS MR LINKIE)
Each person’s name will appear if they’ve entered their link. You can even personalise it (by putting the name of the week’s theme next to your own name when you fill it in).
I did it in the example above – check it out.
Can you let me know if these instructions sound clear enough. I’m not very technical so I have to watch I don’t confuse people.

Heh I think I got it!
I am wondering if we need to have a new Mr. Linkie code for each post, or if we can use the same HTML code for all the posts and Mr. Linkie automatically makes the links for that post in particular…
I may be confusing now.

Hi Tina,
I’m learning this at the same time as you – but I assumed we use the same code. So I’ve put mine on a clipboard so I can re-use it each week.
We’ll soon know – although it is easy to create a new Mr Linkie, so it won’t be drastic if we can’t re-use.
You could use it for 80’s Mondays as well!

yea I really like this idea, a lot. Especially since I was always too lazy to link to the post….I always just linked to the blog instead. This will be better!

Cool, saves me writing code all the time. Not that I mind writing code, I do it for part of my work, but if there is an easier way, then I’m there right beside you.

Sounds a little confusing, but I’ll get it.

Thanks guys – so far so good. The links in the example in this post are working fine!
Mel, it does seem a bit confusing at first but the link you pasted in does work. So as long as you don’t mind registering and following the instructions they provide to get your initial code – it should work just fine.
Eiain,
Since you are far more computer savvy than me – can you work out if we can display the box with the name/url and the list of names of the entries, on our blog post? I’ve noticed that other blogs do this – and it would be better. Here’s an example (scroll down the post and you’ll see the list and box):

If we can display it – could you give an idiot proof set of instructions for me? Thanks.

brilliant! We’ve been using MrLinky for bookblogs – I should have thought of this!!
‘cept, I still have a bit more to understand how I can use it. I always just came here to go everywhere else. saves you the task, anyway…
GOOD ONE!

Hi CuriusC,
You can still come here “to go everywhere else” if you wish – the only difference is that while you’re here, you’ll add your own PF link on my Mr Linky (to save me the trouble).
And if you put Mr Linky on your site, everyone will add their link to save you the trouble!
As long as you ensure that you copy the link to your own PF entry before you go visiting other entrants, it will be easy.

Guys and Gals,
I’ve just checked it out – you will need to create a new Mr Linkie every time you use it. But it is EASY!
The best thing to do is make Mr Linky’s WIZARD page a favourite.
When you go onto it each week:
Choose your server by pressing the button.
Select image-linkies.
Then generate the code.
Right click and copy it – and then paste it into your blog post (If you’re on WORDPRESS, where you write your post you will see at the top of the post the words: VISUAL / HTML – paste it in HTML).
OK?
PS: If you cn’t be arsed – then stick to the method you use – BUT would you mind putting your name & url in mine as I will be using Mr Linky? Ta!
