OK, I’m breaking every rule this week! I didn’t have a photo worth showing of any old cars and I’ve been on holiday this week with no time to source any. So, what to do? Well, I decided I’d think outside the box! Cars = wheels, so anything with wheels, so ergo a TANK! And (to make things even worse) I didn’t even take this photo myself (made obvious by the fact that it is me waving from the tank)!

This photo was taken when I was just 29 years old - I was visiting Jackie Pichon who used to own (and maybe still does) the biggest private military museum in France. I was travelling with another friend and when we arrived at Jackie’s Chateau it was very late at night – but like a good host he had waited up for us. The front door was ajar and there were sheets of paper (with huge black arrows drawn on them) laying on the floor and pointing us in the direction we needed to go. There was also the faint sound of a Cello being played in the distance. As we followed the arrows through the corridors of the Chateau the haunting sound of the Cello grew louder and louder – until finally we reached a closed door. We opened the door to find Jackie playing his Cello in front of a welcoming fire and supper laid out on the table, ready for us.

Where does the tank come into this, I can hear you thinking? Well the next day I said I was going into the town to shop and Jackie said “you can use one of my vehicles”. You’ve guessed – it was that tank! I was accompanied by some of his workers and if memory serves me correctly one of his sons. Just as well, since parking that outside a supermarket took skill! Such fun days …

So am I forgiven for breaking the rules with a World War 2 army tank? It is old after all!

  1. Thank you for the Birthday wish. That is a very neat army tank.

  2. You had me at “Chateau” and “playing the cello in front of a welcoming fire”.

Sounds lovely. Very cool pic of you with friends and the tank. I don’t think I could have parked it…
    Have a good weekend!

  3. That is awesome!!! I want to ride in a tank, right over my house….

  4. Tina,

LOL! I guess the packing cases are getting on your nerves, huh? It’ll soon be over – then just the tedium of unpacking!

  5. Okay, can I join in? I used to do Photo Friday with the photofriday.com people, but I got fed up with them coming up with subjects that were, to be honest a bit insane like “Insignificant” – surely irony makes it significant if you are taking pictures of it.

So can I can I, huh huh, can I?

  6. You sure can Eiain! Do you want to post a pic for this week? Just read the instructions on the Photo Friday and Gold Photo Award page (top of blog). Can’t wait to see your entries!

  7. That is a great picture!

  8. Well, at least you got your week’s right! I have been thinking all week it was “stained glass windows” and didn’t discover I was wrong until (while at work and trying to surreptitiously get my post up) I came to your site to grab some links and saw it was old cars week (and saw what you’d done for it! hahaha!!!) Anyhow, mine, for what it’s worth, is up!

  9. Hey – this is cool. I apologize that I totally forgot today is friday. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? And I bent the rules some, too. I didn’t take the photo but it just had to be shown. So it now is.

Theme ideas: clocks, colors, photo of favorite artwork hanging in your house, before/after (could be anything!), food, books, whereever-you-happen-to-be-at-a-certain-time, like 10 am on day before, “From Great Height”, upsidedown, bridges, the inside of your fridge (a meme awhile ago), favorite shoes, ???
Is that enough brainstorming? only sugs – feel free to discount.
    :)
