Part two – Grandad’s 100th Birthday Bash!

Today was really special for Grandad. As luck would have it he had a good day health wise and was able to really enjoy his 100th birthday celebration. He had some wonderful birthday wishes from blogger friends – thank you! CuriousC and Tina also did special blog posts for grandad – both were so thoughtful and lovely – do take a look. Thank you both.

The highlight of his day was receiving a wonderful card from HRH Queen Elizabeth 2nd (I’ve posted a photo of it below). I don’t suppose Royalty ever read blogs – but just in case: Thank you Ma’am. We really appreciate your kind gesture.

And of course he also received wonderful cards & gifts from family and friends. My dear little grandson (Grandad’s great, great grandson) made a gorgeous card for Grandad’s special day, himself.

Below: A pic of Grandad and me with HRH Queen Elizabeth’s card – before going in to the tea party!

Below: The card had a lovely gold tassle and was of the finest quality (as you’d expect!)

It was signed by her Majesty too. of course Grandad is known as Jack – but his real name is John.

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress also stopped by to wish Grandad a happy 100th birthday and have their photo taken. They could have left quickly afterwards but instead they stopped for tea and birthday cake and chatted to Granda for at least half an hour. I thought this was so kind – since they probably have an incredibly full schedule each day. Grandad really enjoyed their visit and they gave him a nice card and gift.

The nursing home made the most beautiful cake for Grandad to share with all the residents. They also bought him a wonderful gift and all the residents and staff signed cards for him. They did their very best to make his day really special. If anyone from there reads this – THANK YOU all so very much!

Below: Blowing the candles out on the cake! Thank Goodness they didn’t put 100! We’d have needed oxygen for him! The cake was absolutely delicious!

Below: A YouTube montage of today!

THANK YOU EVERY ONE WHO HELPED TO MAKE GRANDAD’S 100th BIRTDAY SO VERY SPECIAL.

He and I will treasure the happy memories.

Happy Birthday Grandad!

  1. What an amazing day not many get to participate in. The card from the Queen is lovely! I am so impressed with your Lord Mayor and his wife staying and chatting to your grandfather. I do hope you mentioned the beautiful blog you keep about your town. He really must read it someday!

  7. Hello Pat,

Lovely to hear from you. I hope you enjoyed the folk festival.

Wow! Say happy 90th birthday to your Dad from me and Grandad. 90 huh? He’s just a Spring chicken, tell him!

I hope you visit my blog again – do you have your own blog? WordPress is a great place to start if you want one (and it’s free).

  8. Grandpa has some esteemed company in celebrating 100 years… both esteemed AND infamous!

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

    and…

    Tunguska Blast

Grandpa came into this world with a blast!

  9. H,

The first luck was fun – the second link was grim!

When I was a child I used to have nightmares about nuclear explosions – I can actually remember seeing the mushroom explosion in my nightmares and I used to wake feeling scared and with my heart racing.

I guess in those days the fear of the atom bomb was on the television a lot and I must have seen it – not good watching for a small child. The second clip reminded me.

    Still, I survived it.

  10. My apologies, Sugar… here…

… let me make it up to you.

And all the other ladies, too!

    ;-)

  11. H,

OK you can get up of your knees now – you’re forgiven! Electric Blue was great! :-)
