Today’s Photo Friday is entitled: Reflections – chosen by Author
(in lakes, rivers, puddles, ponds or even windows etc.)

Follow the links below for other entries (I will add the links as the entries come in!):
This week’s choice is really self indulgent for me because I just LOVE taking photos of reflections. I’m not sure why, but they just look so aesthetic to me. Today I am submitting a number of pics I took in New York of the city scape reflected in buildings – and also an adorable pic of my beautiful much loved grandson reflected in a rather unusual sculpture.

Isn't he just the cutest little boy?
Written on the sculpture is a riddle translated from Anglo Saxon, Circa 975. If you are interested you can read more about it here.
“I saw a creature: his stomach stuck out behind him,
enormously swollen. A strong servant
waited upon him. What filled up his stomach
had traveled from far, and flew through his eye.
He does not always die in giving life
to others, but new strength revives
in the pit of his stomach; he breathes again.
He fathers a son; he’s his own father”

Photo Friday: Reflections - NYC

I love this pic - I tried to complete the building in the reflection!
The photo below is very special to me. It is the photo I took to put on our wedding invitations and notifications (I made them myself) since our wedding celebration meal was held at The Russian Tea Rooms, NYC. I took the photo way back in 1994 and had to scan it into the computer as it is non digital – so it has lost clarity and colour. It’s still special to me though – even if poorly represented her. I have a large framed blow up of this pic – and you’ll have to take my word for the fact that the original version looks stunning!

The Russian Tea Rooms - no longer there! P and I held our wedding celebration meal here after marrying at the church on 5th Avenue.
The last photo was taken by P – I’m in the centre, with two dear friends. N is a pilot and we were all flying to visit some interesting caves in Virginia, USA. There was a terrible thumderstorm and we were grounded for a while at the smallest tin shack of an airport you can imagine!!! I love the reflection of the plane in the rain soaked tarmac.
Photo Friday Advance Diary:
15th August: Tina’s choice – Wildlife
22nd August: Julie’s choice - “Hat Day” (a picture of someone’s hat, that’s funny, pretty, or a self-portrait of us wearing our favorite or funny hat)
29th August: Mrs Nascar’s choice – Old cars (any interesting old cars from rusty scrapheap cars with a bird’s nest under the bonnet, to fabulous vintage or racing cars)
5th September: Author’s choice – Stained Glass Windows (or doors or panels – from cathedrals, churches or any other type of building)
Answer to the riddle: A Bellows

Alfie: Born (approximately) 1st September 2008 (from Cat's Protection rescue centre)

Your grandson is adorable! I never thought about taking pictures of buildings…though there aren’t very many tall ones where I live, unless I go to down town Albuquerque…but I don’t really like to go there very often.

Well, I’m glad someone has fond memories of NY. It’s one thing to tour around the Big Apple in a car, but driving a big rig around there is nerve-wracking. Most trucking companies around here trying to hire new drivers EMPHASIZE no NY!
You mentioned being a pilot yourself, didn’t you, Jan? Nice photos, btw.

Hello H
NYC is one of my favourite places to visit! Although I can appreciate driving a big truck round it would be a nightmare!
Re flying – I was a member of the gliding team at university – and later had flying lessons (in my thirties) but never pursued it to PPL (I couldn’t afford to!!! Such is life) I also hot-air ballooned, parachuted, para-glided and generally did air sports of all sorts! Mad huh? I can barely believe it myself now!
These days I make do with being a passenger in someone else’s plane. Fortunately, several friends have one
or I go commercial (which is always a grotty experience)!

I, too, particularly like the picture where you tried to complete the building in the reflection. Very cool. I am a lover of buildings and architecture and city scapes as well. Wonderful pictures…totally adorable grandson…really hard riddle. You had me stumped there!
