A big welcome to Mrs Nascar - on her first ever entry in Photo Friday !

I was pleased when CordieB chose this week’s title because I just love taking photos of the sea. I love its beauty and the fact that whenever I stroll along the beach, the esplanade, the coastal path, the cliff path - the sea looks different. I never tire of its moods - calm, still, angry, rippling, grey, blue – I love them all! Living on the coast is like living in a beautiful painting – the landscape constantly changes, you’re never quite sure quite what you find when you walk down to the sea.

So I’ve selected a series of photos chosen to show you just how different the sea can look, depending on the time of day, the season of the year, the weather. None of the photos have been enhanced in any way (well OK, I added the mermaid!) – they are presented exactly as they were taken. All the photographs were taken by me in Sidmouth, just four minutes stroll from my home, or from a boat just a few yards off the shoreline:

Below: P and my grandson

Below: My adored grandson – the first thing he says when he arrives to visit is: “When can we go down to the sea Nana?” So I grab the buckets and spades, loose change for ice creams and my camera, and we go! What’s a Nana for, if not for helping to build sandcastles?

And of course – you never quite know what unusual sea creature you’ll spot ….

  3. I almost forgot today was Friday!

These are beautiful pictures. I haven’t been near an ocean since I was 12 years old and it was too windy to enjoy because the sand was blowing in the wind and hitting my legs. I like the picture with the houses along the beach.

I added a few more pictures to my Photo Friday.

  4. How wonderful! Your beloved grandson calls you Nana too; he’s so adorable. These are beautiful photos; so inspirational. The mermaid, i think that’s what I saw, is beautiful. It must be absolutely devine to live by the ocean; I used to live by the ocean – I really miss it. For now, I’ll have to settle for looking at your beautiful views – thanks for sharing the ocean with me. Peace, Light and Love, Cordieb.

  6. Mark,
It’s a pity the Tourist Board don’t award me a stipend for encouraging folk to visit!

    Melanie.
The colours are lovely in the photo you refer to – aren’t they? Those buildings are Hotels on the sea front – small intimate beautiful hotels at that.

    Hi Cordie,
I’m so glad you noticed the mermaid! I wasn’t sure if anyone else had spotted her as no one has mentioned her!

The sea gets into your soul and very being doesn’t it? I could never live away from the sea now.

  7. Trying to turn my jealousy off…

Your photos are gorgeous! The ones of your grandson are simply wonderful. I am sure you enjoy every minute of living by that sea.

How often do you have mermaids visit you?

  9. Hi Tina,

Glad you spotted my mermaid! I couldn’t resist!
I love taking pics of my two grandchildren – they’re such a gorgeous age (5 & 2) and so beautiful and photogenic. I adore them – and they adore me – I’m very lucky.

  10. I was thinking… Can we do a photo friday on Feet?

  11. Maybe when Linda gets back because she loves those feet photos!

  12. Great idea Tina, I’m not sure when Linda’s back. As soon as she is, we’ll do a “feet” post. Do you want to choose another in the meantime?

Leave me your choice below and I’ll add it to “Advanced warning”!

  13. Very serene.

  14. Hrmmm…

    How about Wildlife?

That sounds like a fun one!

  15. Tina,

Yes – I would love to do Wildlife – I’ll add it to our schedule straight away. Thanks.
