Photo Friday – Juxtaposition!

Today’s Photo Friday is entitled: “Juxtaposition!”

And a huge WELCOME to a  new Photo Friday entrant:  Looking in the mirror

I was browsing around the internet for inspiration for this week’s Photo Friday entry (as you do) entitled Juxtaposition (chosen by Lou of BlahBlah Blog) when I came across a wonderful gadget called a Hockneyizer. It’s a fantastically cool tool you can use to create your own unique collage portrait  from just one single photograph. The system was inspired by the photos and collages of the fabulous contemporary Artist, David Hockney (and you all know I’m an avid fan of his work by now!) It immediately stimulated my creative juices and since Wikpedia says juxtaposition means ”two random objects moving in parallel, or a technique intended to stimulate creativity” I thought I could use the gadget with one of my own photos to stimulate creativity in others (I’m betting at least one of you Photo Friday viewers tries it!) so it will nicely fit the title! And, in addition I could show a juxtaposition of age – and a parallel.

So my Photo Friday entry is a collage of my lovely Grandad (taken a year ago) with his two great great grandchildren (the extremely old and the very young juxtaposed – there are 99 years difference in age between the oldest and youngest in the photo and five generations!) Can you see how Grandad’s face lights up when the children are around? He adores them.  And also the energy of my adored little grandson has been captured in this image – you can almost see his energy, his movement. And my equally adored grandaughter – being the Princess, beautifully! In some ways the rather sad events that are unfolding for Grandad at the moment are also echoed in this collage. Grandad won’t always be around for me or his great great grandchildren – and yet he will. There and yet not there. Separated and yet not separate. Running a parallel existence. Juxtaposed.

Photo Friday, entitled: Juxtaposition!

If you fancy having a go with the gadget – please leave me a link so we can all share your collage. Find this cool tool here: Hockneyizer

I couldn’t resist creating a Hockneyizer of Hockney himself too. I thought this particular image was very “him” (I didn’t take this photo myself, so I couldn’t enter it for Photo Friday) with the cigarette in his hand, and the iconic round specs with that blonde unruly hair – you’d be left in no doubt as to who it was:

Hockney Hockneyized!

Next week’s entry? It’s Tina at Sky Windows turn to select the title if she’d like to. So I’ll type it here later when she’s chosen it.

Later: Tina has chosen “Religion” for her topic.

  7. CuriousC and Lou,

Glad you liked it – grandad looks very happy doesn’t he? The great great grandchildren bring him immense joy. He really does adore them.

I like the idea of using the Hockneyiser for PF – so next week:”Religion” by Tina.
The week after my choice (using the hockneyizer or warholizer), I’ll post the title and links to both the gadgets later.
Then the week after that CuriousC gets to choose.
Then the week after, Julie’s choice (@ Just for fun!)
Is that OK with everyone? :-)

  8. I just love the photo of your Grandad and his great great grandchildren. That is just priceless :-)

  9. Thanks Marla! :-)

  10. Wow, this is so fun! I love checking out everyone’s work! Very cool tool, and I will have to try this out, sometime when I have spare time……hmmm…

  13. I just thought of another possible topic, inspired by curious c…

How about a Self portrait week?

  14. CordieB,
Welcome to Photo Friday officially – Hope this is the start of many great entries for you. I’ve linked you at the top of the post now – would you link the other entries to your post – that way everyone gets to see all the entries? You can also use the Photo Friday logo for each post (and also display it on your page) if you wish. :-)

    Tina,
Yep – I like the idea of a self portrait week – see my new post today with details of when.

    Julie,
Great to see you back with a super entry.

  15. Welcome CordieB!!

Tina, I inspired Self-Portrait?! It took me convincing enough to post what I did (my face???!??!! on my anonymous blog!??!?! eek) But OK, I’ll do it.

Yea Julie! The twins look great! so serious…

  16. Hi CuriousC,

With some of those gadgets your self portrait needn’t be recognisable as you! That way you can remain as anonymous as you like.

    :-)
