OK, I might as well confess now – I’ve gone for the easy option this week again; I’ve turned some photos into watercolours. But in my defense, I love the watercolour effect and these particular photos just lend themselves to it.
The photos are part of a series I took locally at Budleigh Salterton, of the Otter Estuary. Part of the East Devon coast has been named a World Heritage site because of its prehistoric age. The coast here is magnificent, and you can combine a walk along the top of the cliffs with a riverside stroll along the River Otter - which is a haven for thousands and thousand of birds. It is quite beautiful. The prehistoric cliffs along Budleigh beach are a dramatic sight, and on a clear day you can see High Peak and Sidmouth (where I live) in the distance.
Below, my entry for Photographic Art 2 (along with 2 other pics from the series)

I love these…they are so delicate. What software do you use to do this? I have tried with a number of mine but cannot seem to capture this sort of affect. Another great job!

CuriousC and Lou,
Fabulous entries from everyone this week. I really enjoyed seeing them.
I’ve got two programmes I use for twiddling with photos, depending on the effect I want to achieve – the one I used today was Micrografx Picture Publisher - and the other I sometimes use is ACDC Photo Editor.

What do you use to manipulate your photos? I am just beginning to do this and I am fascinated by this….I would love to try my photos in watercolour! This is beautiful work!

I really love how these turned out. I always want to do something like this with my photos but it never looks quite right.

Hi Julie,
It couldn’t be easier – I use Micrografx Picture Publisher.
You select your photo, click on image and then click on the chosen effect you want, e.g. watercolour, pop art, oil painting, charcoal, pastel etc. There also lots of other gismos such as steel effect, or other artistic changes. It’s great fun. I tried watercolur on other photographic manipulation programmes and it was nowhere near as good or effective as this one on Micrografx.
It is an old programme I’ve had for several years – you could Google it, to see if it’s still available.
Tina,
Thanks. It was Elizabeth (from the CS group) who got me on to fiddling with photos – she e-mailed me some stunning work she’d done and I was so impressed I got stuck in myself! I’ve been doing ever since.
I make greetings cards (birthday and Christmas etc.) for family and friends and often watercolour the images – some people think I’ve actually printed out a copy of a painting I’ve done – they look so real!

These are very peaceful.
I love making greeting cards from photos. It’s a very personal way to communicate with friends and family.

Thanks Jayleen,
Mine won’t be a patch on yours – you’re a very talented photographer.

Somehow landscape and watercolor art always look so good together. I love your photos. You could very well be the Claude Monet of the digital era.

Hi leafless,
In my dreams maybe! I enjoy taking photographs though and love watercolour art.
