A two week advance notification alert for a Photo Friday Special!

(This is a real fun challenge!)

 

I was reading an article about a couple of talented photographers who have taken great paintings (from the Renaissance period) and reinterpreted them for the camera using contemporary people to “act” the image. Of course they have done this very professionally (see here) but I thought it might be fun to do a Photo Friday Special that anyone can join in providing they have a digital camera and some willing (probably long suffering) friends or family to model for them, or even a bowl of fresh fruit!

The emphasis is on fun. I’m not looking for photographic talent, or skill, or 100% accuracy in re-creating the image. So if you want to have a go - select your painting and then grab the telephone to round up your friends/family/children! Pets can be included - providing you can find a painting with a “same type” of pet in it! It can be as silly or fun as you want - or serious like the examples linked above. You can even take a soft option of a still life if you prefer! Any famous or well known painting will do to re-create!

Guidelines:

1. Choose any famous or well known painting and download it to your blog (Google images might be a useful, or an on-line gallery such as the National Portrait Gallery etc.)
2. Persuade family or friends or pets to pose for the painting (this can be a fun interpretation - I’m not expecting anything nearly as complex as the example above!!!) Or gather what you need for the still life.
3. Take a digital photograph of your efforts and place it below the copy of the original painting, so we can compare the two.
4. Link to this post so we can all share in the fun.

I’m not expecting a quick result as it may take a while to locate a suitable painting and persuade friends or family to pose  - so entries need to be posted on Friday 19th April 2008! (Next week is Photographic Art 2). If your willing to take up the challenge please leave a comment below, so I know you’ve read the guidelines. Meanwhile I’m off to search for my painting - I wonder if I can find one with a cat in it - as next door have got a gorgeous little cat I could borrow?

PS: Later, I’ve now selected my painting and will need to borrow next door’s cat (he may be reluctant but I love a challenge!), and I need to also break the news gently to my husband that he is to pose (he also may be reluctant but I love a challenge!) LOL! I don’t know who will be trickier to handle - my husband or next door’s cat!
