Truth will out!

universal mind reading machine

I was browsing BBC News 24 on-line when I came across the following article - here’s an excerpt:

“Scientists say they may be on the brink of translating into words the thoughts of a man who can no longer speak, after a pioneering experiment”

The article makes interesting reading and I’d be the first to say that a universal mind reading machine would be a fantastic discovery.

BUT if this meant that in the future people might have the ability to know what you’re thinking without you actually saying it – there is no doubt it could and would create utter chaos!

For one – there have been many occasions when if my boss could have read my mind, I’d have been out of a job!

There are also various relatives who would never speak to me again (although that might be a blessing!!!) Then there are one or two friends who might take umbrage and one of my neighbours would cut me dead every time we met. Also a particular friend would find herself a new hairdresser and my husband might be tempted to divorce me. Need I go on?

Basically, my life would disintegrate around me!

However, on the upside: my mother would take more care when choosing me a present and if I bumped into a particular ex-lover again, he would stop being so full of his own bullshit. Perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad after all!

  1. “Basically, my life would disintegrate around me!”

Well, if it ever does, you let me know… eh, girl?

    ;-)

Never lose that wild streak, wild child.

  2. Oh no, reading my mind would not be a good thing at all lol!

  3. I had to think about this one for awhile… I don’t think I would want anyone to know my every thought. How maddening would that be; to never get away and hide in your thoughts!

  4. Hey UH, good to hear from you! Iggy Pop just made my day – I guess I’ll always be a wild child !! Thanks for the offer – I’ll bear that in mind! ;-)

Sillydreamer & Ascender – I couldn’t agree more with you both. The mind is the last refuge for yourself isn’t it? Even when you have to pretend, hide your feelings, suppress your annoyance or anger – you can still revel in the joy of THINKING someone is a complete jerk!! LOL!
    :-)

  5. Oh my, what a thought. I hope your “confessions” didn’t get you into any trouble! Your boss doesn’t read your blog does he? Your husband? They may not know what your thoughts are, but now they know you’re having them. careful there! :-)

  6. Hello Twofer,

Don’t worry, I no longer work for THAT boss!!

And I’m very happily married too – my lovely husband laughed out loud when he read my blog saying the above. It was said tongue in cheek – you can’t be married as long as we have been and not occasionaly feel irritated by each other!!!! Not if you’re normal anyway! Lol!

  7. Reading this as her husband I have to say that whatever is in her mind is usually good! ( there are a few xceptions I could reveal) but I would never divorce my beauiful, thoughful, caring and talented wife whom I was so lucky to find!

  8. Oh Pierre, I’ve gone all mushy! Thank you. I adore you too.

  9. “…but I would never divorce my beauiful, thoughful, caring and talented wife whom I was so lucky to find!”

Make sure you don’t, buddy! There’s lots of ‘wolves’ in them thar hills!

    ;-)

  10. Ooh er! Wolves? Are they handsome?

I’ll be getting myself into trouble again at this rate!!! So don’t answer that TH – because I already know you’re handsome!
